matarbari coal power project rajpasha

Project Summery

Rajpasha has supplied a number of heavy machinery and manpower to the construction of Matarbari 1200 MW Power Plant Project. This project require meeting several rigid Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) regulations for safe construction. Most latest machinery operated by skilled and experienced operators to perform the tasks is how we achieved customer satisfaction. In the project, we have provided around 51,250 man-hours in meeting civil and architectural challenges. Our job covered landscape architecture, bank protection, trenching, landfilling, foundation, industrial flooring, heavy lifting and logistics. For civil construction challenges, we offered Excavators, Long Boom Excavators, Bulldozers, Backhoe Loaders, Dump Trucks, Wheel Loaders and Concrete Boom Pump Trucks. For architectural challenges, we offered Cranes, Concrete Boom Pump Trucks and Trailers.

Matarbari 1200 MW Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Plant Project

The project will generate 1200-MW of electricity using Ultra Super Critical coal-fired power plant technology. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been evaluating this project and will provide ODA loan for the plant. This new power plant will help energy security, industrialization and overall infrastructure development of southern-part Bangladesh.”

Matarbari Coal Fired Power Station is located at Matarbari area of Maheshkhali Island in Cox’s Bazar.

Matarbari Coal Fired Power Station is located at Matarbari area of Maheshkhali Island in Cox’s Bazar. Adjacent to country’s first and only deep sea port, the power plant will have it’s own coal jetty to allow Mother Vessels to quickly unload coal for producing electricity. The environment impact is believed to be low as strict emission regulations are in place. The likely impact is on air and water resources, however, the exhausts will be treated before releasing to the environment.

The local community will be rehabilitated, ensuring access to basic education, medical and community development. Overall income of the population in this region is also expected to improve along with quality of living through employment generation opportunities created by this project which can help meet demand for labor force locally as well as abroad thus reducing dependency on foreign aid which has been increasing over time due largely due lackadaisical approach taken towards poverty alleviation programs by government agencies since independence era (1971).

The project will generate 1200-MW of electricity using Ultra Super Critical coal-fired power plant technology.

The project will generate 1200-MW of electricity using Ultra Super Critical coal-fired power plant technology. It will be built in Matarbari, Cox’s Bazar and commissioned by 2024.

The project includes sub-contractors such as POSCO E&C Co Ltd., Jurong Engineering Ltd and Techlink Onshore Ltd Further sub contractors include Power China Sinohydro Corporation , Energy China Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction and many more.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been evaluating this project and will provide ODA loan for the plant.

The estimated cost of the project is US$ 5.5 billion in a two phase. In the first phase, JICA will provide technical assistance for construction and commissioning of the power plant. The second phase has been terminated with rising concerns from global community against fossil fuels.

The second phase includes construction of a coal handling facility with an annual capacity of 1 million tonnes and a fuel storage facility with an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes. It also includes procurement of equipment related to coal mining operations, preparation for shipment to Japan and supply chain management services at BGBL’s facilities in Thailand as well as onsite training programs for local personnel who will work on this project.

This new power plant will help energy security, industrialization and overall infrastructure development of Bangladesh.

This new power plant will help energy security, industrialization and overall infrastructure development of Bangladesh. It will also contribute to economic growth by providing an additional supply of electricity to the national grid.

The new coal-fired power plant is expected to be a major source of energy for Bangladesh’s industrial sector and can provide up to 1200 MW of electricity at competitive prices, which will significantly enhance the country’s competitiveness in global markets.

Rajpasha, a proud contributor to the construction of Matarbari 1200 MW Power Plant Project.
